Mountainstate Orthopedic Associates’ Morgantown orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Chad Poage, D.O., spoke at the 2016 Meeting of Combined Orthopaedic Associations (COMOC) in Cape Town, South Africa, Friday, April 15.
About Poage and COMOC
Poage, a native of Lewisburg, W.Va., joined MOA in August 2015. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from West Virginia University and his medical degree at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Upon graduation, he received the Donald Newell Award for leadership and academic skills. Following medical school, he completed his residency at Summa Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and served as chief resident during his fifth year residency.
“I am thrilled to be back in my home state caring for my fellow West Virginians,” Poage said. “My residency and fellowship training prepared me to help my patients get better and also opened many doors, such as the opportunity to present at numerous conferences and meetings like the 2016 international COMOC meeting.”
COMOC 2016 gathered this year in Cape Town, South Africa, and the congress was held at the Cape Town International Convention Center from Monday, April 11 to Friday, April 15. This was the 13th annual meeting, and this year’s theme was “Developing Orthopaedics and the Super Specialist.” Orthopedists of all specialties from across the world gathered to hear the most up-to-date information and research in the field.
Poage spoke Friday during the shoulder and elbow academic session on the topic “Kinematic and Radiographic Analysis of a Synthetic Ligament for AC Reconstruction.”
“It was an honor to be selected to speak to my colleagues from around the world at an international venue,” Poage said. “My topic about the surgical treatment of AC joint (shoulder) injuries was based on research I performed during my fellowship. The conference and the city of Cape Town were an amazing experience.”
Poage is fellowship trained in Sports Medicine at the Andrews Research and Education Foundation in Gulf Breeze, Fl. His publishing credits include a chapter in the textbook, “Anterior Cruciate Ligament: Reconstruction and Basic Science,” which he co-authored with Dr. James Andrews, M.D.
His memberships include the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and member of Sigma Sigma Phi National, an honorary osteopathic fraternity.
